For the most part, Six Sigma is taking broken processes and then fixing them. Six Sigma uses the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) approach; whereas, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) uses a DMADV (pronounced DAH MAD VEE) approach, which stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Design and Verify.
Use: The more progressive organizations want to build into the design processes using a Six Sigma philosophy.
