Earning Lean Six Sigma certification elevates and expands skill sets and can help prepare you for a bigger role in the process improvement projects required for modern business success. Emory Continuing Education (ECE), a subdivision of Emory University, offers adult learners several high-quality, online Lean Six Sigma programs that teach the latest strategies and techniques for making operations more efficient and effective.
What is Lean and Six Sigma?
Lean and Six Sigma offer proven, data-driven methods to eliminate waste and reduce defects and errors in a process, product, or service. Six Sigma focuses on finding and eliminating the root causes of errors, often using the DMAIC strategy (define, measure, analyze, improve, control). Lean focuses on reducing waste and ensuring every aspect of a process adds value to the customer.
Emory Lean Six Sigma Programs
Through online Lean and Six Sigma programs offered through ECE, students can learn the tools and techniques to make impactful change in their organization, while increasing their skills and marketability for future career opportunities. Programs include:
Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt
Yellow Belts learn the foundational aspects of Lean and Six Sigma methodology. This program introduces students to basic terms, strategies, and tools to help assist Lean Six Sigma project teams and teaches how Lean and Six Sigma intersect to help businesses stay competitive. Upon successful completion of the Yellow Belt training, students will be prepared to understand the language of Lean Six Sigma and identify and support potential Lean Six Sigma project opportunities consistent with organizational needs.
Lean Continuous Improvement
Professionals in the six-week Lean Continuous Improvement program will learn best practices for applying Lean practices to continuous operational improvements. The focus is on the tools and techniques that result in measurable process improvements, as well as how to maintain them going forward. The course includes both self-paced work and three live, online class sessions with the instructor, who is an expert in process improvement.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
Students in the Green Belt program will learn how to apply Lean and Six Sigma theories, tools, and techniques to solve real-world business challenges. Many Green Belts play a key role in gathering and analyzing data on project teams, often working under the direction of a Black Belt. This six-week online program includes self-paced work as well as weekly, 90-minute online class sessions with the instructor, an active Lean Six Sigma practitioner. This program also features a Green Belt certification exam offered through ECE as part of the tuition.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt for Healthcare
Students in the Green Belt for Healthcare program will learn how to apply the skills and knowledge of Lean Six Sigma in a healthcare setting. Upon successful completion of the 10-week program, students will be prepared to play key roles on projects that improve healthcare operations and possess the knowledge to successfully pass the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification exam, which is administered online through ECE at no additional cost.
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
Black Belts become leaders by applying Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to eliminate waste, reduce errors and provide products and services that better please customers. Black Belts lead project teams, mentor Green Belts, and ensure projects align with business strategy and goals. This eight-week program teaches students how to incorporate Lean Six Sigma into an organization’s culture and how to address company-wide process improvement needs. The program also prepares students to pass the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification exam, which is offered online through ECE at no additional cost.
*The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt program is offered for those who have already successfully completed ECE’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt program. Students who completed Lean Six Sigma Green Belt at another institution, or in another program, may take an opt-out exam to demonstrate they have the knowledge required to be successful in Emory’s Lean Six Sigma Black Belt program.
